Our Client Lesley & Jon Light live in one of the most prominent, recognisable grade II listed houses in Reigate.
They wanted to convert her basement to include a larger, state of the art, family kitchen, with underfloor heating and the latest units and appliances with a granite worktops. They also wanted a functional utility room and downstairs loo. In addition she wanted a snug as her children's playroom. She also wanted a new efficient boiler and pressurised hot water system for their new Fired Earth bathroom which included a bespoke glass shower enclosure.
As the building was listed they required listed building consent for which they enlisted the help of Architect Nicola Westbury who specialises in listed buildings, she drew up comprehensive plans of the new layout with new drainage, electrical and plumbing systems as well as the requirements that were specified by Reigate and Banstead Council. This included matching the mouldings and Georgian detail that was first created over 200 years earlier!
The Old School Building Company won our project by competitive tender. Their planning was thorough which enabled a potentially tricky project to run smoothly from start to finish. We were particularly impressed with the quality of the craftsmanship displayed by Old School employees. Everyone from the masons/ builders, plumbers and in particular their Carpenter showed an impressive level of skill and knowledge of their trade. Old School have converted a damp, cold depressing space into a light airy warm and inviting family kitchen/ dining area. This was not a straight forward job but each challenge was met with a positive "how can be best solve this" attitude and they didn't stop thinking until a solution had been found. We will employ Old School for the next phase of our project without hesitation. We are happy to recommend Old School for anyone looking for a professional building and/or plumbing contractor."
Our Clients - Ali Kershaw and Charlie Lee asked us to carry out two projects for them, at their Victorian home in Yorke Road in Reigate.
Initially, they wanted us to convert their basement to form a cinema room / snug which included new electrics and the creation of a media hub ideal for housing their TV, and various collections of boys toys!
Our second project for them was the building of a large kitchen extension. This involved supporting the entire back wall of their house in order to create a beautiful open plan kitchen dining area. We needed to design plans in order to gain permitted development from Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, and designing the layout of a new kitchen which was bought from Howdens and installed by The 'Old School' Building Company. We also added some amazing sliding bi fold doors which helped bring their garden into their kitchen.
"Our Kitchen looks AMAZING!!! Thanks very much guys x"
